
Baidu, China’s leading search portal, announced that it plans on entering Japan’s search market. Currently, Yahoo and Google have a combined market share of 80-90% in Japan. Baidu has a 70% market share in China.
Baidu says that the majority — about 70% – of internet users in Japan use two search engines (instead of being loyal to one). They aim to be that second search engine that users look to. Their goal is to replicate what happened in China, but Baidu’s CEO acknowledged that it could take a while. (full story: Reuters via Yahoo News)
